Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Mount Prospect is a village of roughly 55,000 with its own municipal government, and its rental areas read very differently from one end of town to the other. These are the areas worth comparing:

South Mount Prospect at Busse Road and Algonquin Road
This is the corner of the village where Forest Cove sits, and it trades downtown foot traffic for green space and highway access. Crystal Court Shopping Center is a four-minute walk from the property at the same Busse Road and Algonquin Road intersection, and the Elmhurst Road interchange on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway is about a mile and a half southeast. Busse Woods lies roughly two miles west, which is why this pocket appeals to renters who want a car commute and a trail loop rather than a walkable main street.

Downtown Mount Prospect
The village center is built around the Metra station at 13 East Northwest Highway, where the Union Pacific Northwest Line runs 20 miles into Ogilvie Transportation Center. Centennial Green at Village Hall anchors the public space, and the Prospect Avenue District has an alfresco dining program that converts on street parking into outdoor seating each spring. Rents here run higher, and the tradeoff is a shorter walk to the platform.

North Mount Prospect and Randhurst
The north end of the village centers on Randhurst Village, an open-air mixed-use center with retail, a movie theater, and a Costco, plus Mount Prospect Plaza along Rand Road. It is the most retail dense part of town, though it sits farther from the forest preserve system than the south side does.

Arlington Heights
Directly northwest, Arlington Heights offers a second Metra station on the same Union Pacific Northwest Line at 45 West Northwest Highway and is home to Endeavor Health Northwest Community Hospital on Central Road. Renters who work in healthcare often start their search here before widening it into Mount Prospect.

Mount Prospect offers a wooded suburban lifestyle with direct access to one of the largest forest preserve systems in the Chicago region. Whether you're looking for trail access, a walkable town center, or a short commute to a major job corridor, here are some of the unique features to consider:

Ideal Location
Forest Cove sits roughly a mile and a half from the Elmhurst Road interchange on Interstate 90 and about two miles from Busse Woods, putting highway access and forest preserve trails in opposite directions from the same address.

Outdoor Adventures
The Forest Preserves of Cook County manage the 3,558 acre Ned Brown Preserve, known locally as Busse Woods, which carries nearly 13 miles of paved trail and the 457 acre Busse Reservoir for fishing and paddling.

Premium Living
Mount Prospect sits on the Golden Corridor, the Interstate 90 job belt running from O'Hare to Huntley, where neighboring Elk Grove Village holds the largest business park in North America at more than 62 million square feet. From Forest Cove, that job density means short commutes for residents working in manufacturing, insurance, or logistics.

Local Community
Niche ranked Mount Prospect number 71 of 363 on its 2026 Best Suburbs to Live in Illinois list, and the village is served by four park districts covering roughly 400 acres, including an outdoor wave pool and skating rinks.

Forest Cove sits a quarter mile from the Busse Road and Algonquin Road commercial corner and about two miles from the Cook County forest preserve system, which covers both ends of a weekend. Options nearby include:

  • Ned Brown Preserve, also called Busse Woods
  • Busse Lake Boating Center
  • The Busse Woods elk pasture
  • RecPlex, the Mount Prospect Park District recreation complex
  • Randhurst Village
  • Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg
  • Crystal Court Shopping Center
  • Jameson's Charhouse
  • Mount Prospect Public Library
  • The Mount Prospect Lions Club Farmers Market
  • Downtown Mount Prospect and Centennial Green
  • Melas Park

Jameson's Charhouse sits roughly a quarter mile from Forest Cove on Algonquin Road, close enough to walk to dinner on a warm evening.

Downtown Chicago is about 20 miles southeast of Mount Prospect, with Metra's Union Pacific Northwest Line providing direct service to Ogilvie Transportation Center. Closer to home, Forest Cove is roughly a mile and a half from the Elmhurst Road interchange on Interstate 90 and about five miles from O'Hare, providing convenient access to the manufacturing, insurance, healthcare, and technology employers along the Golden Corridor:

  • Robert Bosch Tool Corporation (North American headquarters in Mount Prospect)
  • Rauland, a division of AMETEK (headquarters in Mount Prospect)
  • Crane Payment Innovations, formerly Cummins Allison (Mount Prospect)
  • Northrop Grumman (Rolling Meadows)
  • Zurich North America (Schaumburg)
  • Motorola Solutions (Schaumburg)
  • Paylocity (Schaumburg)
  • ADP (Schaumburg)
  • Wheels, Inc. (Schaumburg)
  • Woodfield Mall (Schaumburg)
  • Endeavor Health Northwest Community Hospital (Arlington Heights)
  • Ascension Alexian Brothers (Elk Grove Village)
  • Harper College (Palatine)
  • Oakton College (Des Plaines)
  • Chicago O'Hare International Airport

Two of those headquarters, Robert Bosch Tool and Rauland, sit next door to each other on West Central Road inside Mount Prospect itself, which keeps some Forest Cove commutes under ten minutes.

The grounds are the first thing most people notice at Forest Cove, and the built amenities are arranged around them:

Lagoons, Wooden Bridges, and Walking Paths
The community's 11 buildings are laid out around a lagoon, streams, fountains, and picturesque wooden bridges, with walking paths threading between them. Apartment homes include a private balcony or patio facing the landscaping, so the greenery reads as part of the home rather than something you drive past. It is an unusual setting for a property this close to the Interstate 90 commercial corridor.

Heated Outdoor Pool and Grilling Deck
A heated outdoor pool sits alongside a sundeck and a picnic and barbeque area, extending the swimming season past what an unheated pool allows. The grilling setup gives residents somewhere to cook and eat outdoors after a ride on the Busse Woods trail loop a couple of miles west.

The Clubhouse and 24/7 Fitness Center
The fitness center is open around the clock, so workouts fit whatever shift you keep. The clubhouse adds a resident lounge with a fireplace, and complimentary Wi-Fi is available in all social spaces. A coffee and tea bar is available to residents at no charge.

A Bark Park and Round-the-Clock Conveniences
Forest Cove is pet friendly and keeps a community Bark Park on site, which spares residents the drive to a public run. A 24-hour laundry center operates in every one of the 11 buildings, touch-free package pickup lockers run seven days a week, and maintenance is on call for emergencies at any hour. Storage rooms and carport parking are available, and monthly resident events are held throughout the year.
